A Cappuccino is an espresso with frothed, hot milk. The milk is 'partly' frothed until a bit creamy and then mixed with the coffee, instead of putting it on top of it. This creates its typical appearance with brown espresso crema in the foam of the milk.

Often, a coffee with a top milk foam layer dusted with cocoa powder, is offered as 'real Italian' cappuccino, but this beverage would rather correspond to a Dry Cappuccino or Flat White. However, coffee and milk must be combined. Cocoa powder has no place on a cappuccino. This is often used to sweeten the frothed milk and hide the bitter taste of badly prepared or low-quality coffee. If at all, cocoa or chocolate powder is used for Latte Art decoration.
